NSCAD Library: Syllabus Service

The NSCAD Library is Atlantic Canada’s largest library dedicated to fine arts, craft, and design. It houses an extensive collection of print and media resources, online databases, and special collections to support learning in all subjects taught at NSCAD

About the Service and How to Submit Your Syllabus

The NSCAD Library can assist you in making your course readings easily accessible to students through Brightspace while respecting NSCAD licensing agreements and Canadian copyright.  Using your course reading list, a Librarian will create persistent URLs (PURLs) for content licensed through our online databases and assist you in getting them in your Brightspace course content space. We will also work to obtain transactional licenses for materials that fall outside the limits of fair dealing. This service is available to all NSCAD Faculty.

To use the service please submit the following to Lelland Reed, Collections and Systems Librarian at

  • Your course syllabus and/or course reading list (including complete citations with page numbers where applicable) as a PDF or Microsoft Word document. We will create stable links to as many of the course readings as possible (Faculty will be contacted about materials that require permissions or transactional licenses).  These links can be used for inclusion in your Brightspace course content space. When submitting your syllabus please also include:
    • Your name and contact information
    • Course name and course code
    • Course start and end dates

Note: Please submit your syllabus and reading list as soon as possible. Reading lists will be processed on a first-come first-serve basis.

Important Information On Copyright

For resources which the NSCAD Library does not own in print, have a license to use, or which exceed fair dealing guidelines, the appropriate copyright permissions will be sought out.  To learn more about copyright and fair dealing please refer to following resources:

Links in Brightspace

  2. Electronic resources where the appropriate copyright permissions have been acquired.
  3. Links to public domain and other free and open web resources.
