Spencer Finch, detail from Abecedary (Nabokov's Theory of a Colored Alphabet applied to Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle), 2004
Spencer Finch's work is marked by a preoccupation with light and colour. This work, Abecedary, brings together the Russian writer, Vladimir Nabokov's synaesthetic alphabet (in which letters are associated with specific colours) and the German physicist, Werner Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, that describes the limitations of precision with respect to the behaviour of subatomic particles.
